Work Commences on Garden Village on outskirts of Heybridge

Essex, March 2022 – Award winning local developer Countryside, has commenced infrastructure works on its significant new development on the outskirts of Heybridge in Maldon, known as Westcombe Park. Located next to the historic market town of Maldon and within easy reach of the A12 and direct trains to London, once completed Westcombe Park will provide over 1,000 new homes, with a range of amenities, parks and open spaces creating a vibrant and integrated new community.

Westcombe Park is set around ancient woodland and is designed as a garden village with landscape at its heart, creating a series of welcoming new green spaces as well as preserving the existing environment. There will be plenty of opportunity for outdoor sport and recreation with sports pitches and pavilion, children’s play areas and allotments.

A new neighbourhood centre will become the focal point for the community, providing day to day amenities including space to accommodate a new medical centre should it be required.  Land has also been set aside for a potential new primary school and nursery to be delivered by Essex County Council.

The new homes are designed to meet the needs of various lifestyles, available with a mix of spacious layouts offering one and two-bedroom apartments and two to five-bedroom houses. All of the new homes will benefit from full fibre internet, capable of delivering superfast broadband.

By prioritising the landscape, the creation of Westcombe Park has in fact allowed the ancient Heybridge Wood to be conserved in perpetuity and managed by the Land Trust in a way that will increase biodiversity, allowing the public and wildlife to enjoy the space together. A network of footpaths and cycle paths links the areas of green space, while existing trees and hedgerows are retained allowing nature to thrive.

Martin Leach, Managing Director, Strategic Land and Major Projects, Countryside said: “We are enormously pleased to be starting work at Westcombe Park, providing exceptional homes in a popular and well-connected region of Essex. Through careful design and placemaking, residents will be able to enjoy the highest standards of contemporary living within a unique garden community that combines the benefits of both town and country.”

The first phase of new homes at Westcombe Park will be available from Countryside later this year. For further information and to register your interest visit www.westcombe-park.com
